Commission on Ministry
The Commission on Ministry carries out the following duties as stated in the Book of Order:
Each presbytery shall develop and maintain mechanisms and processes to serve as pastor and counselor to teaching elders, ruling elders commissioned to pastoral service, and certified Christian educators of the presbytery; to facilitate the relationship between the presbytery and its congregations, teaching elders, ruling elders commissioned to pastoral service, and Christian educators to settle difficulties on behalf of the presbytery where possible and expedient. - Schedules and conducts visits with pastors and sessions.
- Oversees supply and interim relationships.
- Oversees commissioned ruling elders (CRE’s).
- Provides pastoral care to clergy, educators, sessions, and congregations in the presbytery.
- Receives candidates for call once they have passed through the Examinations Sub-Committee.
- Members serve as liaisons for five to six churches in the presbytery.
- Provides resources for churches in conflict, including resource people for conflict management.
- Approves all updates and changes to the COM manual.
- Recommends to presbytery commissions for ordination and/or Installation.
- Oversees congregations without ministers.
