Cann Memorial in Elizabeth City held its 120th anniversary Founder's Day

Cann Memorial in Elizabeth City held its 120th anniversary Founder's Day celebration Sunday, March 22.

The church was founded March 24, 1889. Lay leaders conducted the service, welcomed the congregation and visitors, and a covered dish luncheon was shared by all after worship.

In addition to music, scriptures and prayer, the major presentation included biographical sketches of founders remembered in the church's stained glass windows. This focus used program elements which had worked well in past celebrations, now put together by lifetime Cann member Lemuel Blades III, as well as significant new features. The Christian significance of the various symbols in the windows were explained by different groups of presenters.

Two special items made it a special Founders Day -- we received new members and our General Presbyter Barbara Campbell Davis brought greetings from Presbytery.
